Co-location

Colocation allows you to connect your own server to the internet in a secure facility. This means you are connected directly to 1Gb/s LAN ports on a real IP address. Colocation allows very fast access from the internet - ideal for application servers and web server.

The facilities we provide in Maidenhead are :-

There are two main options. Either providing your own server, or buying a server from us. If you provide your own server it has to meet certain restrictions.

Note: Existing customers in Dockland are being moved to these new facilities as an ongoing process.

Location

We offer hosting in a convenient, out of London, location in Maidenhead. The facility has diverse routed fibre links to multiple data centres in central London allowing us to provide high speed internet access as well as LAN links to a variety of London data centres if required.

We can offer hosting in a secure ex-nuclear bunker in Kent as well - please ask if you are interested in this.

Support

All of the data centres we use offer basic intelligent hands type services allowing us to quickly arrange for servers to be rebooted and basic operations performed on the console. However, the Maidenhead facility is also only 10 minutes from our offices allowing our own support staff to be on site quickly during office ours.

We can also offer a baby-sitting service where we will temporarily relocate your server in our Bracknell offices and connect to the same LAN that is in Maidenhead using a dedicated fibre link to our office. This allows us to perform any monitoring or work on your server as you need during office hours whilst it remains connected and on the same network and IPs as it is normally in the data centre.

We can also arrange supervised access for you to visit any of the data centres to work on your equipment. We can arrange for your equipment to be shipped back to you if needed.

Please ask at the time for costs of these various support options.

Power backup

We can provide one or two power feeds to suite your dual power feed servers. This allows extra redundancy in case of power failure and maintenance.

Network backup

We have links to the internet via dual redundant routers to provide high availability and connecting via tier 1 transit providers.

We also operate dual network switches, and can connect to your server from separate network switches to eliminate single points of failure wherever possible.

If you only have one network port then this will be connected to one switch, but still have dual power feed as above, and the switch has dual network connections to our core switches. If you have two network ports then you can configure these as a main and failover. We can advise on configuration for linux boxes allowing switch over as quickly as 100ms.

Reliability

We can never offer a 100% guarantee, but we are taking these steps to provide the highest assurance we can that you will remain powered and connected all of the time. However, please read the terms carefully for limitiations on liability.
